Blackberry, iPhone, Windows Mobile, Smart Phone, and PDA Policy
HSC Information Technology Services fully supports the Blackberry Enterprise Server and Microsoft ActiveSync (iPhones, Windows Mobile devices).
Support for PDAs and other Smartphones are at our best effort. We cannot guarantee this service because of variance in browsers, operating systems, cell networks, synchronization software, etc. but we will make our best effort in trying to support these devices.
Blackberry, iPhone, Windows Mobile Security: Lost or stolen devices must be reported as soon as possible.

- Information Technology Services has the ability to lock or disable a lost or stolen BlackBerry, iPhone, or Windows Mobile devices remotely.
- You MUST password protect your BlackBerry, iPhone, or Windows Mobile device.
- Passwords must be at least four characters long.
- Your device will lock after 20 minutes of inactivity.
- Three incorrect password attempts will lock out your device.
- Do not loan your BlackBerry, iPhone, or Windows Mobile device to another individual.
- Encryption - If confidential, PHI, educational records protected by FERPA, business asset data, proprietary, or private information is stored on an iPhone/Blackberry/Windows Mobile/Smartphone/PDA, access controls and encryption must be employed. The end user is responsible for assuring that encryption software/hardware meets or exceeds 128-bit encryption standards or current industry standard for encryption and the end user is responsible for notifying IT Services that the iPhone/Smartphone/PDA will be used for such functions. Additionally, wireless PDA and PDA Phone devices, including iPhone and Smartphone devices, require that the user be familiar with the different network options used by the device and conduct communication containing PHI, educational records protected by FERPA accordingly.
- All mobile devices with direct connections to the HSC Exchange system will require password, auto-lock after 20 minutes of inactivity, and have remote-wipe capabilities.
The WVU Email, Appropriate Use, Information Technology and Security, and all other WVU policies must be followed.
