Writing My Paper

There are two major tasks in writing a research paper:

    Developing the research question

    State your topic as a question :

    • Topic: stem cell research
    • Question: Why is stem cell research a controversial issue?

    Pose several sub-questions :

    • Which groups support stem cell research?
    • Which groups oppose stem cell research?
    • What are the reasons for supporting or opposing stem cell research?
    • What are the ethical issues in stem cell research?
    • What laws or regulations impact stem cell research?

    Identify keywords :

    • Keywords: stem cells, stem cell
    • Associated keywords: laws regulations ethics funding

    Using a style manual to organize the body of the paper

    • There are many writing guides or style manuals to help you write your paper.
    • Often your teacher will indicate which style manual to utilize for your paper.
    • There are different style manuals for different subjects.
