What is Loansome Doc?
Loansome Doc is the ordering feature of the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed database. It allows users to order copies of journal articles online. You search the PubMed database for the articles you need and then order them from the same screen. Your orders are routed to the WVU Health Sciences Library where the requested articles are scanned and emailed to you within one to three working days. Other methods of delivery (mail, fax, pickup) are available.
Any request that cannot be filled by our library will be referred to another lending institution or document delivery supplier in the region(unless you indicate otherwise on your registration form); referrals usually take 3-5 working days.
How much does it cost?
For WVU-affiliated patrons (which includes current faculty/field professors, visiting clinicians, staff, and students), the charge is $3.00 per article. No additional charges apply if the request is referred.
For unaffiliated health care practitioners, the charge is $5.00 per article plus, if the request is referred, the fee charged by the document delivery supplier (usually $11.50 per article plus an additional copyright fee which could be as high as $40.00).
For commercial clients, the charge is $15.00 per article plus, if the request is referred, the fee charged by the document delivery supplier (usually $11.50 per article plus an additional copyright fee which could be as high as $40.00).
For RUSH requests, a $15.00 surcharge will be added. There is no charge for unfilled requests.
Health Sciences Library will bill Loansome Doc users on a monthly basis; invoices will be prepared on the tenth of the month.

** Please note Special Handling/RUSH is an additional $15.00 per request charge independent of the delivery fee.

How do I become a Loansome Doc user?
To become a Loansome Doc user, you must first complete an online registration form. Go to:
https://docline.gov/loansome/login.cfm and click on Sign up!
After filling out the online form, you will need to contact the Interlibrary Loan Office by calling 304-293-1931 or by sending an email to Eugene Kyle.
