The general focus of my research has entailed investigations concerning the clinical pharmacology of both cytokines and cytotoxic drugs in patients with cancer. Most of the work has involved evaluation of anti-cancer drug pharmacometrics and pharmacogenetics. The techniques typically entail: chromatography (HPLC +/- MS), pharmacometric modeling, and RT-PCR. This work has ranged from studies involving older cytotoxics in the high-dose setting to phase I (first in human) investigations.
I remain involved in the design of both treatment-related and research-related clinical trials for both Duke’s Experimental Cancer Therapeutics Program as well as WVU’s. We have formed consortium agreements with Duke on two grants and are working on several industry-sponsored contracts. One of my newer efforts at WVU has been to expand my work in drug metabolism to include exploration of metabolic enzymes involved in carcinogen disposition.
