The Betty Puskar Breast Care Center
Pink Rubber Ducks to Raise Money for WVU Breast Care Center

Pick Rubber Duckys
These pink rubber ducks will be sold through October to raise money for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.

Everyone's familiar with the traditional yellow rubber duck. This month you can buy a pink one, and support the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center at West Virginia University.

Duck Soup, a children's shop in Fairmont, is selling pink ribbon rubber ducks during October, in support of breast cancer awareness month. The rubber ducks cost $1.50 each, and $1 of each one sold will be donated to the CASSIE Fund at the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center at WVU.

The CASSIE Fund helps the Breast Care Center provide breast imaging services to uninsured or underinsured women who don't qualify for other state or federally funded programs.

Since opening its doors in 1996, the Breast Care Center has performed more than 97,000 mammograms, more than 10,000 breast ultrasounds and 4,000 breast biopsies. The facility provides the best available expertise, educational tools and technology aimed at the prevention and early detection of breast cancer.

Donna Gorbey, who co-owns Duck Soup with her sister, Connie Cerullo, said she and her sister wanted to contribute to the fight against breast cancer and Duck Soup allows them to reach more people than a personal donation.

"We also wanted to help on a local level and the CASSIE Fund fits that criterion, " Ms. Gorbey said. "Breast cancer is a very real issue to me. I have watched two friends battle the disease unsuccessfully, each leaving behind two young daughters."

In addition to selling pink ribbon ducks, Duck Soup will donate 10% of net sales in October to the Breast Care Center.

Duck Soup specializes in classic toys and books as well as new bestsellers and other unique toys, such as Webkinz stuffed animals that are very popular right now. -2 The store is located at 325 Adams Street, across from Veteran's Square and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday.
