West Virginia University provided free clinical breast exams to nearly 90 women in October during breast cancer awareness month.
The exams were provided at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center on October 2 and the Cancer Center exhibit at the WVU Hospitals Health Expo at Morgantown Mall on October 17.
The majority of women came from Morgantown and the surrounding region, including Pennsylvania and Maryland. One woman who visited the mall exhibit resided in Texas.
About half of the 46 women examined at WVU’s Cancer Center were referred for a follow-up mammogram or ultrasound. Six of the 42 women examined at the WVUH Health Expo were referred for follow-ups.
The free exams were sponsored by the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program, the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center, and WVU Hospitals.
