The Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program
2008_free_events
Dozens of women from the Morgantown community came to West Virginia Univerisity on October 2 to receive a free clinical breast exam offered by the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center in observance of breast cancer awareness month. WVU is hosting a series of free breast cancer awareness events in October including the Afternoon of Enlightenment at Lakeview Resort on October 12, another free clinical breast exam at the Cancer Center exhibit at the WVUH Health Expo at Morgantown Mall on October 17, and an educational talk on the hereditary risks for breast cancer and breast cancer prevention in the lobby of the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center at 6 pm on October 28.

A Team Approach

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women, and the leading cause of cancer-related death in women aged 25 to 44. Advances in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment have led to steadily declining mortality rates in recent years, but the disease remains a challenge for millions of women, their families, and the healthcare professionals who care for them.

The Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program at West Virginia University provides women with the latest in breast cancer care in a coordinated, team approach. A variety of breast cancer specialists see each patient on the initial visit, and work together to develop and deliver the best possible individualized treatment plan. Patients are put on the road to recovery faster by not having to make multiple appointments to see different specialists.

Nurses, social workers, psychologists, genetic counselor and others provide education, counseling, and support services to help women understand and deal with the effects of breast cancer and its treatments on their lives.
