Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women, and the leading cause of cancer-related death in women aged 25 to 44. Advances in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment have led to steadily declining mortality rates in recent years, but the disease remains a challenge for millions of women, their families, and the healthcare professionals who care for them.
The Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program at West Virginia University provides women with the latest in breast cancer care in a coordinated, team approach. A variety of breast cancer specialists see each patient on the initial visit, and work together to develop and deliver the best possible individualized treatment plan. Patients are put on the road to recovery faster by not having to make multiple appointments to see different specialists.
Nurses, social workers, psychologists, genetic counselor and others provide education, counseling, and support services to help women understand and deal with the effects of breast cancer and its treatments on their lives. |
