The first step in treating breast cancer is accurate diagnosis and staging. WVU's Betty Puskar Breast Care Center offers expertise and the most advanced technology for early detection of breast cancer. The Center is fully accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and is federally certified under the Mammography Quality Standards Act to provide high-quality breast imaging. Diagnostic services include:
- Low dose screening and diagnostic mammography
- Magnification mammography
- Needle localization
- Fine needle aspiration
- Vacuum-assisted mammotome breast biopsy (either stereotactic X-ray or ultrasound-guided)
- Sentinel lymph node mapping
- Ultrasound of the breast
- DEXA bone densitometry
- Breast MRI
- Positron emission tomography (PET Scan)
