The canopy at the Cancer Center expansion as it looked in the summer of 2008 is now completed and staff welcomed our first patients on January 12, 2009. |
Construction of the expansion at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center is nearing completion. The major expansion to double patient care space is finished. However, renovation of the original clinic continues over the next several months.
Effective January 12, 2009, patients will enter the new spacious cancer center beneath the canopy of the expanded facility. The valet parking service, formerly located at the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center entrance, will be available at the new cancer center clinic entrance. For your convenience, valets and MBRCC staff will be available if needed to guide and assist patients. There will also be some wheelchairs available.
For those who wish to personally park, spaces are available in the parking garage across from the emergency room entrance.
Changes Inside the Addition

The infusion center is now completed for the first patients of the Cancer Center addition on January 12, 2009. |
Once patients pass through the new revolving glass door entrance, they will be on the ground floor facing the greeter’s desk where they will be provided beepers until paged to individual, private check-in rooms. There are also new private checkout rooms to schedule future appointments.
The expanded ground floor houses a patient library, phlebotomy lab and wig boutique. There are three patient waiting areas: a main one featuring an adjacent play area for children; a neutropenic area for patients whose immune systems are compromised; and another in the new lab area where visitors can wait while patients are getting blood work done.
The first floor of the addition houses the new infusion center for patients who need injections, non-chemotherapy and or chemotherapy infusions. There is a waiting room at the entrance of the infusion center for family members or visitors. MBRCC staff will be available to help guide or direct patients to the infusion center as needed.
Doctors will continue to see patients in the original cancer center clinic, while it is being renovated over the next several months updating or adding new exam and procedure rooms until the entire former clinic is transformed into a modern yet comfortable space.
Our patients remain our number one priority as we continue to provide high quality care. We apologize for any inconvenience during the expansion and renovation. We hope that you will be very pleased with your new facility.
