Message from the Director
Our goal at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center is to build a cancer center that offers cutting edge patient care and research. In a state that has one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the nation; the challenge to reduce the burden of the disease is great. But our determination remains strong.

I am pleased to share with you some of the important ways in which we are growing and developing strategies to improve healthcare in West Virginia and beyond.

We are making steady progress on our major expansion project that will transform the Cancer Center into a state-of-the-art facility, with double the space available for patients and research. This will allow us to recruit more cancer researchers. And, physicians will use the space to further develop our multi-disciplinary approach to treating cancer patients.

We are strengthening our relationships with cancer physicians and other healthcare providers across West Virginia and with experts at regional cancer centers to find ways to collaborate in areas of research, education, and patient care. These collaborations will provide opportunities for additional clinical trials so that more West Virginians will have access to the latest treatments without having to travel great distances.

We are addressing the problem of tobacco addiction in West Virginia. Our new Translational Tobacco Reduction Research Program brings together scientists from various disciplines at WVU to develop strategies to help people kick the habit.

Thanks to the generosity of Jo and Ben Statler, we are shaping plans to traverse the hills and valleys of West Virginia with a new mobile mammography unit that will provide greater access to breast cancer screening in rural West Virginia.

We extend sincere appreciation to our countless partners and friends for their extraordinary support of WVU and West Virginia’s Cancer Center. Together we are building a brighter tomorrow for our state and region.
