Major Gifts
Gifts of $25,000 or more enable the MBR Cancer Center to fund the treatment of cancer patients, cancer research and educational programs. There are various ways to donate a major gift.
Unrestricted Gifts: These provide the flexibility needed to move quickly in new directions in research and to pursue promising clinical applications swiftly.
Restricted Gifts: These enable a donor to provide support for specific purposes or programs in research, patient care, education, or other areas of a donor's choosing.
Gift Naming Opportunities: There are various opportunities for the naming of buildings, floors, rooms, laboratories, or equipment at the MBR Cancer Center.
Capital Gifts: Gifts for the purchase of equipment or for the construction or renovation of facilities provide the center with the vital resources that the best research and treatment require.
Appreciated Securities/Real Estate: Outright, irrevocable gifts of real property are eligible for charitable income tax deductions equal to the full market value of the property. Gifts of appreciated securities help to avoid the capital gains tax. In most cases, the donor may make a deduction based on the full market value of the property held for at least one year.
Planned Giving
You may wish to make a gift to the MBR Cancer Center's lifesaving programs through periodic payments to you or your loved ones. Gifts through wills are excellent ways to leave a legacy of support for critical advances in cancer research and patient care.
Gifts That Give Back: These can help you meet a number of financial goals including planning retirement, providing for elderly relatives, and funding educational expenses. These gifts can be funded with cash or appreciated securities. Options include gift annuities, the pooled income fund, and charitable remainder trusts. The benefits vary, but all of these arrangements can do the following:
- Provide annual payments for you and/or your spouse or another person
- Reduce your tax bill with a charitable income tax deduction
- Enable you to "unlock" income from highly appreciated but low yielding assets while saving
- Delaying, or altogether avoiding capital gains tax
- Offer professional investment management
- Save estate and gift taxes
Gifts By Will: Many who are concerned about preserving current income but still want to make a special gift to the MBR Cancer Center decide to remember us in their wills. In addition, such gifts can reduce estate taxes.

Special Occasion Giving
Many people find great satisfaction by making gifts in memory of a family member, friend, or to honor someone who is fighting cancer. Others have made important donations as a way of recognizing those who go to work everyday trying to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.
A gift may be offered at anytime during the year and for any occasion -- a birthday, anniversary, or holiday -- or used to express appreciation or love. When the gift is received, The MBR Cancer Center sends a special letter of notification to the person or family indicated by the donor. The donor also receives an acknowledgment letter.
