Component 1: Health Outcomes: Investigations to understand and improve (a) decision-making at all levels of the medical and health care system, (b) the outcomes of care and treatment, and (c) what works, for whom, when, and at what cost.
Component 2: Measurement and Improvement: Research that develops and tests (a) valid and reliable measures of treatment processes and outcomes, (b) strategies to reduce treatment errors, (c) strategies for the dissemination and implementation of validated measures to improve the quality of cancer care.
Component 3: Access and Utilization: Research to determine (a) the types of cancer treatment used, (b) the cost and sources of payment, (c) determinants of access to care or treatment, and (d) ways that improve access and promote cost-effective treatment.
