Jame Abraham is the Chief of the Section of Hematology/Oncology, and an Associate Professor of Medicine at West Virginia University. He is the Medical Director for the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center and Director for the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program (www.hsc.wvu.edu/mbrcc/cbcp). He did his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology from the National Cancer Institute (NCI, www.cancer.gov) and National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH, www.nih.gov), Bethesda, MD. He did his residency at the School of Medicine, University of Connecticut, CT. He did his medical school from Calicut Medical College, Kerala, India.
His clinical and research interests are in the field of the treatment of breast cancer.
He has published articles in several leading journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology (www.jco.org), Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI), Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer and Bone Marrow Transplantation. He is the editor of the Community Translations section of the journal Community Oncology.
He has edited a 700-page textbook, Bethesda Handbook of Clinical Oncology, published by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins (www.lww.com), which is one of the best selling handbooks in Oncology. The second edition of this book was published in May 2005. He edited another book in 2007, Breast Cancer: A Clinical Guide, published by Wolter Kluwer/Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, Philadelphia.
He has received several awards, including Merit Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (www.asco.org, 2001) and Idea Award and Career Development Award from the Department of Defense (http://cdmrp.army.mil, 2002). He was nominated as the Clinician of the Year by the Department of Medicine, West Virginia University in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
He is the principal investigator for more than 10 protocols at WVU. He has nearly one million dollars research grant from different sources, including the Department of Defense, and investigator initiated studies from the industry. He is the Institutional Principal Investigator for ECOG at West Virginia University. He is a member of the NSABP Breast Committee (www.nsabp.pitt.edu).
Over the past 5 years he has given about 100 invited talks in different parts of the country and abroad. |
