Population Health Research Program
 |
"We envision a healthier WV...a future where we prevent cancer; a future where everyone touched by cancer receives effective treatment and support."
|
|
Program Areas:
The new Division of Population Health Research will include two primary program areas:
Mission:
With a primary focus on lung health, the central mission of MBRCC Division of Population Health Research is to:
- Help people reduce cancer risks and lead healthier lives
- Improve the treatment and quality of life among cancer patients and their caregivers
Goals:
The goal of MBRCC's newest division is to reduce cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality across the lifespan. With a major focus on lung cancer, we bring together scientists from all disciplines to conduct research that moves from laboratories (discovery) to communities (prevention and intervention development) and to widespread use across populations (delivery).
Building bridges between scientists and the general population, our research results in knowledge, products, and services that scientists, practitioners, decision makers, and community members can use to improve public health in WV and beyond. We conduct research for and with our community.
Examples of population health research includes:
- Clinical and community-based trials (efficacy and effectiveness trials)
- Evaluation studies
- Needs assessments
- Cost-effectiveness analyses
- Compliance studies
- Determinants studies (including studies of genetics, biomarkers, epidemiology)
- Health status analyses
- Patterns of care and practice studies
- Service and technology utilization studies
- Health economics & Pharmacoeconomics
