Summer Research Fellowship Program

The Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at West Virginia University offers undergraduate research fellowships every summer in clinical and basic cancer research. The highly competitive fellowship program provides funding and opportunities for students who want to pursue careers in cancer research or medicine. Each fellow receives a stipend and additional funds for research supplies are provided to the host lab. The fellow is paired with a WVU MBRCC scientist for a 10-week research project. Various research projects are available that provide a research experience focused upon molecular, biochemical and/or cellular approaches toward understanding the mechanism of cancer, the development of anticancer drugs and applications of nanotechnology to cancer research. The participating labs focus upon blood and hematological malignancies such as leukemia or lymphoma, as well as cervical, ovarian, breast, lung and head and neck cancers.

In the Summer 2008 program, the fellowship stipend is $4000. The program will start June 2, 2008 and continue until August 8, 2008. Fellows are required to prepare an abstract and present the results of their summer research project at the research symposium.
