The Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cell Biology is well funded and nationally recognized with an active and diverse biomedical research program. The mission of the department is to provide excellence in education, research, and service to the students of West Virginia University. The overall strength of the department and its previous highly successful graduate program make this an ideal place for the graduate program in Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis.

The major objective of graduate education in the Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis Graduate Program is research training. To achieve this purpose, students are grounded with a strong foundation in basic concepts of microbiology, microbial pathogenesis, and immunology and allowed flexibility in choosing advanced coursework in their specific areas of interest.

Our faculty research interests are diverse.  Advancing knowledge that improves human health and the quality of life is the ultimate goal of each investigator.  Faculty research interests include studies in molecular mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis and immunity, cell biology, and immunology. The department offers many opportunities to conduct groundbreaking research in these fields in a collaborative, stimulating environment.
