Biostatistics Students Receive Internship Opportunities with Major Corporations

Yohannes Gebremariam has recently accepted a summer internship at the Emmes Corporation, a Contract Research Organization (CRO) in Rockville, MD. He will be a full-time Biostatistics Intern in the Clinical and Epidemiological Studies in Infectious Disease Unit.

“I feel that this internship will give me an opportunity to apply fundamentals learned within the classroom to real-world issues. I also feel that it will give me an in-depth analysis of what it is really like to work within my field of study. This will help me to solidify my future endeavors,” Yohannes says.

Yohannes is originally from Ethiopia and has achieved his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Statistics. He will graduate in August with an MPH in Biostatistics from the WVU School of Public Health.

Mark Riffon has recently been selected as a summer intern in the Pharmacokinetics Drug Metabolism Department at Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. As a current Master of Public Health student in the Biostatistics Department, he will be managing data relating to clinical trials. In his work, Mark hopes to gain valuable experience pertaining to the pharmaceutical industry that will aid him in his future career endeavors.

Mark is a Morgantown native and received his undergraduate degree in Industrial Mathematics and Statistics at West Virginia University. He will be entering his second year in the MPH program and is a member of both the Student Association of Public Health as well as the Master of Public Health Student Ambassadors.
