CEOD offering new class focused on patient lifting and mobility

WVU Medicine’s Center for Education and Organizational Development (CEOD) is offering a new, optional course for clinical associates and support associates involving the L.I.F.T. (Living Injury Free Together) program.

The one-hour course will be offered for the first time on Monday, July 18, at the WVU Medicine Operations Support Center, in CEOD training room five (first floor). More classes will be offered during the year. See this calendar for a schedule that runs through December. Enrollment through NetLearning (look for "L.I.F.T. Safe Patient Handling Training") is required for attendance.

The class is offered to all current CAs and SAs to aid in bridging the gap between WVU Medicine L.I.F.T. equipment and those patients who may not require ArjoHuntleigh lifts but continue to require physical assistance for mobility. It will cover how to safely transfer patients from supine (laying on their back) to sitting and back to supine; sitting to standing; standing pivot from one surface to another; and how to assist patients safely with ambulation. It will touch on use of assistive devices (canes, walkers, etc.), how to adjust them correctly for the patient’s height, and how to educate patients on their use.
