CEOD offers training on substance abuse and veterans mental health for RNs

The WVU Medicine Center for Education and Organizational Development (CEOD) has developed training for RNs on substance abuse and veterans mental health. Twelve hours of continuing education is required annually by the West Virginia Board of Nursing, including the topics of Substance Abuse and Veterans Mental Health.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE

For new nurses needing an initial three hours of training, the following CBLs are available in NetLearning:

  • Opioid Treatment in Chronic Pain Management
  • Diversion: Approaches to Prevention
  • Best Practice Prescribing of Controlled Substances

For nurses who have already completed the initial three hours and need the one-hour update course, the following CBL is available in NetLearning:

  • 2017 Substance Abuse Update

A classroom course, called 2017 Substance Abuse Update, is also available at the Operations Support Center, CEOD Training Room 3. Nurses can sign up in NetLearning. Below is the class schedule:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 28, 10:30-11:45 a.m.
  • Tuesday, April 11, 10:30-11:45 a.m.
  • Thursday, June 8, 8- 9:15 a.m.

VETERANS MENTAL HEALTH

RNs are also required to complete two hours of continuing education on mental health conditions common to veterans and their families.

A classroom course is available at the Operations Support Center, CEOD Training Room 3. Below is the schedule:

  • Feb. 28, 8-10:15 a.m.
  • April 11, 8-10:15 a.m.
  • June 8, 9:30-11:45 a.m.

If participants are unable to attend the live training, a CBL titled 2017 Veterans' Mental Health Class is available in NetLearning.
