Employee Health will not offer nasal spray flu vaccine this year

For the 2016-17 flu season, Employee Health will not offer the flu nasal spray.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) did not approve use of the nasal spray flu vaccine for the upcoming flu season. ACIP reviewed data from the 2013 through 2016 flu seasons and found that the flu nasal spray showed relatively low effectiveness when compared to the inactivated and recombinant vaccines.
