The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will hold its Great Strides 5K walk on Saturday, April 23, at the Riverfront Park Picnic Pavilion in Star City. Check-in begins at 10 a.m. and the walk gets underway at 11 a.m.

Great Strides is a family-friendly event. There will be food, activities, entertainment and more. WVU Medicine is serving as an event sponsor.

Great Strides provides an opportunity for people within the community to get involved in a great cause -- raising funds in support of a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Participants can form walk teams at their workplace, through their clubs and organizations, or with friends and family.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease affecting approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States. More than 10 million people are "carriers" of the defective CF gene. CF causes repeat and chronic lung infections and difficulty digesting food and nutrients. Today, thanks to research and care supported by the Foundation, many people with CF are living into their 30s, 40s and beyond.
