New Observation Unit opens

A new seven-bed observation unit opened Wednesday, April 8, on 2 East, next to Employee Health in the location of the old Merlin training rooms.

With input from the Capacity Management Throughput Group, WVU Healthcare has been looking for ways to alleviate congestion in high-traffic areas, such as the Emergency Department. It has also been trying to divert transfers, when possible, and to increase the capacity of Ruby Memorial Hospital. The additional observation beds will help address these issues.
