New orientation program for nurse practitioners and physician assistants to begin in new year

Beginning in January 2016, all new physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) will attend a comprehensive three-day orientation as they begin practicing at WVU Medicine. Existing advance practice professionals (APPs) are invited to attend.

The curriculum will include:

  • Welcome and introductions
  • APP department
  • Human Resources topics
  • WVUH / UHA
  • Service lines
  • Medical staff roles
  • Mentoring
  • Core privileges
  • Coding / billing
  • Hand-off communication
  • Language Line Interpreter / SBAR communication                             
  • Rosenbaum Family House / Ronald McDonald House         
  • Patient identification                                                                                     
  • Chaplain services / palliative care                                           
  • Codes                                          
  • Patient education / exit care
  • Quality / patient satisfaction
