New orientation program for nurse practitioners and physician assistants to begin in new year
Beginning in January 2016, all new physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) will attend a comprehensive three-day orientation as they begin practicing at WVU Medicine. Existing advance practice professionals (APPs) are invited to attend.
The curriculum will include:
- Welcome and introductions
- APP department
- Human Resources topics
- WVUH / UHA
- Service lines
- Medical staff roles
- Mentoring
- Core privileges
- Coding / billing
- Hand-off communication
- Language Line Interpreter / SBAR communication
- Rosenbaum Family House / Ronald McDonald House
- Patient identification
- Chaplain services / palliative care
- Codes
- Patient education / exit care
- Quality / patient satisfaction
