New Ruby atrium lobby opening scheduled for July 6

Gift shop will move in mid-July; Starbucks to be added in fall.

The new Ruby Memorial Hospital atrium will open at 5 a.m. Monday, July 6, according to Jeff Heiskell, a project manager with the Planning, Design and Construction Department.

At that time, the temporary main entrance on the west side of the lobby will close and all staff, patients and visitors will enter under the new canopy through the centrally located double doors into the new atrium.

Once inside, the patients and visitors will be assisted to their destinations by the Hospital’s concierge and new Navigator service, conveniently located at a new information desk near the atrium’s front entrance.

After the lobby opens, the Friends Gift Shop will move into space that’s close to its original location in the east lobby. The new, expanded gift shop should be operational by mid-July, Heiskell said. The new lobby will also restore access to the main entrance of WVU Healthcare Human Resources.

This summer, construction will begin on a Starbucks, which is slated to open in October.

During construction of the Starbucks, the coffee bar, currently in the west lobby, will move to Ruby on the Run on the fourth floor near the cafeteria.
