Opioid addiction topic of Community Seminar

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – WVU Medicine University Healthcare and the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center Eastern Division will sponsor a community mini-medical school program titled Treating Opioid Addiction.

The seminar will be held 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15 in the auditorium of the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center on the Berkeley Medical Center campus. This lecture will focus on the sensitive topic of opioid addiction in our community as well as valuable resources for the treatment of addiction.

John W. Aldis, M.D., M.P.H., family medicine and travel medicine specialist, will be the guest speaker. He will be presenting an informative lecture on all aspects of the opioid epidemic.

Registration for the mini-medical school program and the Eastern Pylons History of Medicine lecture begins at 6:15 p.m. This month’s Pylons lecture, History of the Rabies Vaccination, will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature William Wear, M.D., a board-certified pediatrician with University Pediatric Associates and assistant professor of pediatrics at the WVU School of Medicine. The mini-medical school program will follow at 7 p.m.

The mini-medical school program is being offered free to the public as a community service of WVU Medicine University Healthcare and the WVU Health Sciences Center Eastern Division. The Pylons lecture series has been made possible in part by a grant from the West Virginia Humanities Council.
