Phone scam from 'local sheriff's department' targets physicians

A phone scam that involves a caller pretending to be a representative from the local sheriff's department has been targeting physicians and potentially other employees.

The scammer, in these instances, has been informing people that they have an outstanding warrant for the person's arrest and then threatening to invalidate vehicle registration licenses unless payment is sent.

All employees are reminded not to provide any information or means of payment to suspicious sources. In this situation, the best course of action is to hang up the phone.
