Reminder: Policy provides guidelines for therapy pets

Families and patients of WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals seeking pet therapy should familiarize themselves with a policy that outlines the regulations for arranging these visits.

The WVU Medicine Pet Therapy Program is only approved for dogs and volunteers coordinated through Volunteer Services.

This policy includes a set of guidelines that address:

  • minimum health requirements for the dog and owner/handler
  • who can receive a visit
  • locations where therapy dogs are not allowed
  • infection control considerations

To access the policy, click on the link above or go to the "Administration Policies" page within the "WVUH Policies" page on CONNECT. The Pet Therapy Policy is located in “Patient Care” (fourth section from top) under policy number IV.065.
