Reynolds Memorial Hospital intends to join West Virginia United Health System

Management agreement put in place in the meantime

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale has announced that it has issued a letter of intent to join the West Virginia United Health System (WVUHS). The 90-bed facility in Marshall County and WVUHS have signed a management agreement, effective immediately. A Certificate of Need will be filed with the West Virginia Health Care Authority seeking approval of the acquisition.

David Hess, M.D., CEO of Reynolds Memorial and a graduate of the WVU School of Medicine, said this change will ensure the health of the community and of the hospital.

“You can’t imagine what this hospital already means to Glen Dale. We’ve been around more than 100 years and want to be around 100 more. We offer great jobs, and our employees have a passion for the community,” Hess said. “Becoming part of the West Virginia United Health System means that we will be able to offer tertiary care from the state’s premier academic medical center to enhance our care of patients throughout the Ohio Valley.”

WVUHS, anchored by Ruby Memorial, is a statewide health system including seven hospitals with 1,450 licensed beds, 12,000 employees, 900 active medical staff, and 18 related organizations.

“This continues our commitment to partner with and expand clinical services for the citizens of the state under the WVU Medicine umbrella,” Christopher C. Colenda, M.D., M.P.H., president and CEO of WVUHS, said. “We are grateful that Dr. Hess, the hospital board, and its president Bernie Twigg want to become part of the family. Our pledge is to ensure that Reynolds will continue to be a vital community resource and to enhance patient access to our signature clinical programs and specialty services.”
