School of Public Health MPH Student Janelle Graves awarded Legislative Internship
The West Virginia State Legislature has awarded Janelle Graves a Robert W. Burk, Jr. Internship that will begin January 3 and extend to the end of April 2013.
Janelle is a current Master of Public Health Student with concentration in Health Policy, Management and Leadership and a specialization in Healthcare Administration. She has leadership roles in a variety of organizations at WVU, including service as a School of Public Health MPH Student Ambassador, Black Graduate Student Association-VP (BGSA), Maximum Impact-P, and several others. Her personality excites and motivates others to want to engage.
The Robert W. Burk Jr. Student Intern Program selects up to four graduate students from statewide applicants; positions are competitive. Interns are placed in the offices of committee chairpersons and other legislative leaders in both bodies. Burk interns have the opportunity to observe the making of policy, analyze policy, and conduct research on issues throughout the internship.
“We are delighted that Janelle will be completing her MPH field work and culminating experience at the West Virginia Legislature. She will be the first legislative intern from the new School of Public Health,” notes Bobbi Sykes, Associate Practicum Coordinator. “This award makes it possible for a deserving and qualified student to have an exceptional learning experience.”
The Walter Rollins Scholars Program and the Robert W. Burk, Jr., Student Intern
Program, offered by the West Virginia Legislature, provide educational experiences to graduate students attending West Virginia’s colleges and universities. Through these programs, graduate students suited for placement in legislative offices gain an understanding of the state Legislature and its role in the making of public policy.
