Some WVU Login requirements changing Nov. 13; System will be down 7 a.m. to noon
To better protect University data and systems, Information Technology Services is adding new features to the WVU Login system, including a prohibition on re-using the same password within one calendar year. Login services will be unavailable from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 13 while we perform the maintenance required to add this and other enhancements. This means you will not be able to claim accounts or reset passwords during this time.
There are several other important changes that affect faculty, staff and students:
- In addition to more clear wording on various forms with in the identity management system, Login users will notice changes and new details in the explanation of the Annual Security Responsibility statement.
- Faculty, staff and students whose positions have a HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance requirement will be required to change their passwords every 90 days. This expands the requirement beyond Health Sciences Center and WVU Medicine positions.
- The following Special Account Requests will link to new places: Visitors, guests, consultants and other non-employees; Employee email request for students; and Ensuring that an application requires WVU credentials for access.
ITS also reminds Login users that all passwords MUST meet the following criteria:
- Be at least eight (8) and no more than 20 characters long.
- Contain characters from at least three of the following four categories:
-
- Uppercase letters: A-Z
- Lowercase letters: a-z
- Numbers: 0-9
- Only these special characters: / ! ^ ? : . { } [ ] ~ - _
- Never use any special character more than once consecutively, such as // or ?? or ^^.
- Cannot include three (3) consecutive characters from your first name, middle name, last name or username.
- Cannot have blank spaces.
- Cannot be among the last five passwords used for Login or any other WVU system.
You should NEVER use your Login username and password on any non-WVU system.
