St. Joseph's Hospital, Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital employees to face each other in charity basketball game

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Employees from St. Joseph’s Hospital (STJ) and Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital (SJMH) will take to the courts on Tuesday, April 26 in Weston as they face each other in a basketball game benefiting the United Way of Gilmer, Lewis, and Upshur counties.

Staff from each hospital are training for the second “Thunder Cup” game between the two organizations. The last game was held in 2013, at which time STJ bested SJMH.

“Our goal is to win again and maintain the 'Thunder Cup' trophy. However, the ultimate goal is comradery between the two facilities as well as providing a fun activity for our staff and community. We had so much fun at the game in 2013 and are hoping for a better event this year,” Kathy White, STJ employee and United Way board member, said.

The game will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Robert Bland Middle School in Weston and is open to the public.

Advance tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12. Tickets at the door will be $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. A special halftime activity for children will also be included. All proceeds benefit the United Way.
