Tammy Whitacre to lead fundraising at WVU Cancer Center

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Tammy Whitacre has been named director of development for the West Virginia University Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. Cancer Center Director Scot C. Remick, M.D., Deputy Director Laura F. Gibson, Ph.D., and Vice President for Health Sciences Center Development Julia Phalunas recently announced Whitacre’s appointment in a joint message to Cancer Center members and HSC leadership.

“Tammy has already hit the ground running and is as excited as we are to continue our efforts in the WVU Capital Campaign – A State of Minds,” Dr. Remick said. “This next phase of fund raising for the Cancer Center is of extraordinary strategic importance to us, and Tammy is committed to this effort. She has the enthusiasm, knowledge and skill set to do an outstanding job, as well as the support of both the Cancer Center and WVU Foundation to move us in an exciting new direction.”

For the past four years, Whitacre was the assistant director of development for the Cancer Center. Prior to that, she was a senior prospect research analyst at the WVU Foundation.

“It’s an exciting time for the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, and I am thrilled to lead it as the new director of development,” Whitacre said. “I plan to focus on the priorities set forth in our Capital Campaign and work closely with Drs. Remick and Gibson, whose vision and passion for the Center will no doubt lead us to great success.”

Whitacre received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in communication studies from West Virginia University.  She is originally from Meadowbrook, Pa., near Philadelphia.
