The Wright Stuff: You asked, and we listened

A message to the WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals family

Parking – that’s a very hot topic on our campus. I hear about parking issues during the breakfasts I host for employees, via email messages I receive, and in hallway conversations. I know this is a big issue – one that needs addressed.

You have been very patient with us as we’ve worked on a solution. And, finally, we have one!

WVU Medicine will be building two parking garages. One will be located near WVU’s Milan Puskar Stadium (off of Don Nehlen Drive); the other, near WVU’s Mountaineer Station (off of Van Voorhis Road). We will announce the exact locations in the next 90 days. We are still working through some of the details.

The parking garages will be completed in the next 18 months. That means they’ll be ready for occupancy in late 2019. We will reassess our off-campus parking options at that time.

Both garages will be designated for employees – and parking will continue to be free. This will allow more of the parking spaces in front of J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital to be available for patients and family members.

We believe that this change will improve the customer experience, as well as the employee experience. WVU Medicine is working hard to continue to be the region’s “employer of choice,” and having convenient parking is an important part of that plan.
