W.Va. gets $1.9m federal health grant

West Virginia has received nearly $1.9 million in funding from the federal government aimed at efforts to prevent chronic diseases.

U.S. Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin and Congressman Nick Rahall announced the funding Tuesday from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the state Bureau for Public Health.

The grant is aimed at laying the foundation for community prevention efforts to ensure long-term success, including encouraging residents to live active, healthy lifestyles without tobacco use.
