Wilks named interim director of interprofessional education (IPE) for health sciences

David Wilks, M.D., professor emeritus and former assistant dean for technology in medical education and former medical director of the David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety, WV STEPS Center, will assume the position of interim director of interprofessional education for health sciences, effective August 1 to December 31, 2016. An internal search for the position will be conducted in the fall.

Dr. Wilks was the primary architect behind the development of the STEPS Center, where many IPE courses take place. He was successful in facilitating the STEPS Center’s accreditation for both teaching and assessment, which are necessary elements of a successful IPE experience.

During his tenure as Director of IPE, he will serve as the principal resource for all IPE efforts at the Health Sciences Center. He will replace Georgia Narsavage, Ph.D., professor of nursing and the initial director of interprofessional education at the Health Sciences Center from 2013-2016. Dr. Narsavage is retiring in July.
