WV STEPS expansion and renovation project continues

Located on the third floor of the Health Sciences Center, WV STEPS (Simulation Training for Education and Patient Safety) is currently under construction to expand and renovate the center. The final space, which will measure about 15,000 square feet, will contain simulated patient exam rooms, two critical skills practice labs, a computer lab, storage, a surgical education lab, mother/child simulation room, a physical assessment lab, reception and waiting spaces, offices, a conference room and associated support spaces.

HSC Facilities Management Associate Director Paul Walden said the demolition of the existing space was completed by in-house HSC staff, and the build-out of the space has been awarded to Manheim Construction. The project manager will be Jim Childs, representing the University.

"The major portion of the construction will soon be underway and will continue until October 2015," Walden said. "There will be noise and disruptions at times, and we ask for faculty and staff to be patient as the work occurs."
