WVU Cancer Institute, WVU Medicine and WVU Athletics plan “Pink” Events in October
The WVU Cancer Institute, WVU Medicine and WVU Athletics are teaming up on several “Pink” events to raise breast cancer awareness in October.
Mountaineer fans are encouraged to don their pink and come to the WVU women’s “Pink” soccer game against Oklahoma at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Sunday, October 8 at 2 p.m. Bring your smiles as this game will be televised regionally on AT&T Sports Net. You’ll receive pink pom-pom shakers and get to tour the new Bonnie’s Bus, WVU’s state-of-the-art mobile 3D mammography vehicle, which will be parked in the lot next to the stadium. Members of the soccer team will be decked out in pink uniforms and during halftime will celebrate the success of their annual spring fundraiser to benefit the Cancer Institute’s Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. Fans will also have an opportunity to receive the official pink Mountaineer T-shirt when they make a $10 donation. Tickets will be $1 at the gate and available online at WVUGAME.com.
WVU Medicine’s plastic and reconstructive surgeons are partnering with local restaurants in Dine Out for Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day on Wednesday, October 18 to help raise awareness of breast reconstruction options available to women following breast cancer surgery. Local restaurants participating in BRA Day throughout the day will donate a percentage of their total receipts to a fund at WVU for patient education and assistance to uninsured and underinsured women seeking breast reconstruction. Eighty percent of the proceeds will stay in the WVU fund to benefit women in West Virginia and 20 percent will be donated directly to The Plastic Surgery Foundation’s Breast Reconstruction Awareness Fund. The new Bonnie’s Bus, WVU’s state-of-the-art mobile mammography vehicle, will be parked at WVU Medicine at University Town Centre in Granville, offering three-dimensional (3D) mammograms and breast care education to women from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 20. Walk-ins will be accepted, so no appointment is necessary. Bonnie’s Bus will visit 19 communities throughout West Virginia in October.
The WVU Cancer Institute is sponsoring the American Cancer Society Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at the WVU Student Rec Center in Morgantown, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 21. Join our team – Hakuna Ma TaTas.
The WVU women’s volleyball team will host a “Pink” game against K-State at 1 p.m. on October 21 at the WVU Coliseum. The team will wear their pink jerseys and are encouraging fans to wear pink. You’ll also receive pink pom-pom shakers and have an opportunity to receive the official pink Mountaineer T-shirt when you make a $10 donation.
WVU Medicine and the Cancer Institute will host a dinner for breast cancer survivors at Lakeview Resort in Morgantown at 2 p.m. on October 22. At this event, cancer survivors share their personal cancer journeys with fellow survivors and visit with cancer specialists in a nonclinical setting.
The WVU men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in two "pink" swim meets. They will host Seton Hall and Xavier at 6:00 p.m. on October 27 and at 10:00 a.m. on October 28 at the WVU Natatorium. Fans will have an opportunity to receive the official pink Mountaineer T-shirt when they make a $10 donation.
