WVU Dental Class of 2017 to host Cupcake Wars

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Calling all cupcake bakers! The West Virginia University School of Dentistry Doctor of Dental Surgery Class of 2017 is hosting the first-ever Cupcake Wars from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 in the parking lot near the School’s Suncrest Towne Centre clinic.

WVU students will have the opportunity to show off their baking and decorating skills in hopes of being named WVU’s Best Cupcaker. While the competition is open to WVU students only, the public is invited to enjoy the day, which will be filled with goodies, prizes, face painting, and more.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Hands for a Cause, a non-profit organization started by Kerri Thomas, president of the WVU Dental Class of 2017, to give dentists and future dentists a means to give back to the community in times of need, such as sickness, natural disasters, fire, etc. Future events to benefit the non-profit are currently being organized.

There is a $10 registration fee for bakers. Prizes will be awarded for people’s choice and for first, second, and third places. The judges for the competition will be local bakery owners.
