WVU EXTENSION TEAMS WITH THE WV PRC TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND TACKLE OBESITY RATES

A $1.3 million federal grant from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention will help West Virginia University target and reduce childhood obesity and associated health concerns in three West Virginia Counties.

The grant was awarded to the WVU Extension Service and the West Virginia Prevention Research Center housed within WVU School of Public Health.

Funding for the grant was part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services initiative to support public health efforts to reduce chronic diseases, promote healthier lifestyles and control spending. CDC administers the grant, which will continue for approximately three years.

Six universities—including WVU—received this grant funding that works through existing Extension Service organizations.
