WVU Medicine acupuncture services expand to pediatric patients

WVU Medicine Children’s is now providing acupuncture for pediatric patients. Audra Rouster, MD, is credentialed in medical acupuncture and provides services to target a variety of conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, headache, and muscular pain.

The pediatric acupuncture clinic is held on Thursdays from 12:30-4 p.m. at the Pediatric Specialties Clinic, which is located on the second floor of the Physician Office Center. Self-referrals are accepted. Pediatric acupuncture is not covered by most insurance companies, and out-of-pocket expenses are due at the time of service.

Prices:

  • 15-minute visit without electrical stimulation: $75
    • Each additional 15 minutes is $55
  • 15-minute visit with electrical stimulation: $80
    • Each additional 15 minutes is $65
  • Trigger point injection (1-2 points): $109

Acupuncture visits in EPIC:

  • AC (1) is Acupuncture Intake (1032) for new patients.
  • ACU (1) is Acupuncture Treatment (1473) for return patients.
  • Modifiers are in place in EPIC to distinguish age. Appointment slots are 30 minutes.

Note: Pediatric acupuncture appointments are scheduled under Peds GI-Dr. Audra Rouster, AC (1) or ACU (1) to distinguish between acupuncture visits and digestive disease clinic.

Kendra Unger, MD, of the Clark K. Sleeth Family Medicine Center, also provides acupuncture services at WVU Medicine University Towne Centre.
