WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center announces 2016 Nursing Award winners

MARTINSBURG, W.VA. – “Culture of safety, it starts with YOU” is the theme for National Nurses Week 2016. WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center celebrated the week with a ceremony to announce the 2016 Nursing Award winners.

Nursing Excellence Awards were presented to four outstanding registered nurses, nominated by their peers and colleagues. These nurses demonstrate clinical excellence in providing compassionate and personalized care to their patients, exhibiting a commitment to the profession of nursing, and displaying leadership behaviors that inspire others and help shape nursing practice.

2016 winners included: Carol Laing, R.N., Surgical Services Nursing Excellence Award; James Stenack, R.N., Critical Care Nursing Excellence Award; Angel Smith, R.N., Medical/Surgical Nursing Excellence Award; and Karen Bailey, R.N., Maternal/Child Services Nursing Excellence Award.

Nurse Technician Excellence Awards were also presented to four individuals during the ceremony. This award is present to a nursing service staff member as an acknowledgement of appreciation and respect for their role in the nursing care at Berkeley Medical Center.

2016 winners included:  April Cook, Critical Care Nurse Technician Excellence Award; Cheryl Forney, Behavioral Health Nurse Technician Excellence Award; Amy Gosnell, Surgical Services Nurse Technician Excellence Award; and Jeanie McGuiness, Maternal/Child Services Nurse Technician Award.

A poster contest was also held featuring entries from all nursing departments at Berkeley Medical Center. The Float Pool won first place in the Spirit Poster Award contest.
