WVU Medicine finance leaders assume broader roles

WVU Medicine’s financial leadership has assumed a new structure to keep pace with the growth of the organization.

Effective Oct. 1, Doug Coffman was promoted to senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer (CFO) for WVU Medicine.

Also, Melissa McCoy was promoted to vice president of finance for WVU Medicine, while also retaining her role as CFO for WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals.

To provide finance oversight over the nine hospitals and clinics throughout WVU Medicine’s regional footprint, four individuals were promoted to the new roles of regional vice president of finance. The list below includes the names of the new regional vice presidents and the hospitals they oversee. These individuals will also oversee affiliated clinics in each region.

  • Justin Gibson, northern region (WVU Hospitals, WVU Medicine Children’s, Potomac Valley Hospital)
  • Kathy Quinones, eastern region (Berkeley Medical Center, Jefferson Medical Center)
  • Jim Rutkowski, southern region (St. Joseph’s Hospital, United Hospital Center)
  • Carolyn Allen, western region (Camden Clark Medical Center)

In addition, WVU Medicine hired Lisa Simon, a former senior vice president and CFO with Ohio Valley Medical Center, as vice president of finance, mergers, and acquisitions. Simon, who will also have financial oversight of the northwest region, including Reynolds Memorial Hospital, will begin her duties Dec. 13.

“We've developed a finance leadership structure that will allow us to be comprehensive but nimble in providing financial oversight and direction as our health system continues to grow and evolve," Coffman said. “We have many talented individuals within our finance team and the logical step was to expand their roles as part of this new structure.”
