WVU Medicine master plan in the works

Given the continued growth in demand for WVU Medicine clinical services, the organization is working closely with WVU Health Sciences and WVU Athletics to create a comprehensive master plan for its main campus and off-campus locations in the Morgantown area.

The plan will outline how WVU Medicine will expand, renovate, and, in some cases, possibly replace existing facilities over the next several years.

The plan will also address a variety of issues related to the experience of patients, visitors, and employees on the main campus. Among the issues are parking and expansion of clinical programs.

As the organization takes a fresh look at how it wants to configure both its main campus and off-campus locations, it plans to evaluate how to accommodate the growth at its University Town Centre (UTC) location.

According to leaders, patient visits at the UTC continue to surpass budgeted estimates, and the feedback received from patients about the facility is consistently positive. They like the experience and appreciate the convenient location.

Because of the increased demand for services at the UTC, leaders are evaluating the possibility of expanding the clinic space at that facility, as part of the master plan. That decision may ultimately impact whether or not the outpatient surgery pavilion will be constructed adjacent to the UTC. Construction of that facility has not yet begun.
