WVU Medicine Stride 5K

Event Date: 09/24/2016

Event Location: Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV

WVU Medicine will host its 24th annual Stride 5K, a 3.1 mile run and walk, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, in front of J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

The early bird race fee is $25 for the general public, and $20 for employees of WVU Medicine and WVU Health Sciences. After Sept. 16 and on race day, the cost is $30 for all participants. The race fee includes a T-shirt for the first 200 pre-registrants.

The Stride 5K is organized by WVU Medicine Rehabilitation Services. Event proceeds benefit the Richard Rosenbaum Memorial Fund, which provides medication and equipment to patients with cystic fibrosis and other pulmonary problems.

Richard “Rick” Rosenbaum was treated for cystic fibrosis at WVU from the time he was born until he died at age 36 in 1995. His family, including his mother, the late Hilda Rosenbaum, is responsible for establishing the fund, as well as the Rosenbaum Family House, which provides a place for adult patients and their families to stay while receiving medical treatment at WVU Medicine.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the 5K run – $150, first place; $100, second; and $50, third. Prizes also will be awarded to the age group, heavyweight, and employee winners in the 5K run, and to the top three men and women who finish the 5K walk. All participants are eligible for prize drawings.

Three special kids’ races begin at 9:45 a.m. Two short-distance races will take place for younger children, while older kids can participate in a half-mile run. Participation in the kids’ races is free. Parents must register their children on race morning. Children also can participate in arts and crafts during the adult race.
