WVU Medicine to install new scrub dispensers
Ruby Memorial Hospital will install ScrubEx dispensers at six locations to provide a more efficient and cost-effective method of delivering scrubs to employees.
A website is available for employees to sign up for access to ScrubEx.
Installation of the dispensers will start soon. They will be placed on the following floors and serve the following units as follows:
March 9
Sixth floor: MICC
Ninth floor: Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit
March 9-10
Fifth floor: Operating Rooms
March 11
Fourth floor: Sterile Processing, Materials Management, Pharmacy
March 15
Second floor: 2W (OPS/Endo)
March 15-16
Third floor: Emergency Department, Cardiology, Radiology
The dispensers will serve about 1,200 employees and save $111,000 a year by eliminating unauthorized scrub access and reducing laundering costs, said Sam Krautz, director, Environmental Services and Linen Distribution.
Each registered employee will have access to scrubs and will use a Galaxy card to access them and return them each day, using the ScrubEx dispenser.
Emergency services personnel, who typically replenish their linens at Ruby after dropping off a patient, will also be granted access to a limited number of linens per visit.
WVU Medicine will have the option to remove the dispensers after six months but Krautz said ScrubEx has proven to be effective at peer institutions.
