WVU Medicine University Healthcare Foundation golf classic names 2018 co-chairs

MARTINSBURG, W.Va.- Charles Lowery of Citizens National Bank (CNB) and Scott Mathis of WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center have been named co-chairs for the 2018 Bernie Hutzler Golf Classic.

The annual WVU Medicine University Healthcare Foundation golf classic, which benefits Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg and Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson, will be held on June 4 at The Woods in Hedgesville. To date, more than $1.5 million has been raised for both hospitals from past golf tournaments.

This year marks the 31st year for the tournament, which was established in 1988 as a fundraiser and “friend raiser" for Berkeley Medical Center. Named in memory of Dr. James “Bernie” Hutzler, a former hospital board director, the tournament was expanded in 2010 to benefit both Berkeley and Jefferson Medical Centers.

Proceeds from this year’s golf classic will be used to support the OB department at Jefferson Medical Center and the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute at Berkeley Medical Center.

The 2018 Bernie Hutzler Golf Classic will feature two flights with calls to carts at 7 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Flight preference is granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Golfers may form their own teams but will be subject to handicap restrictions as determined by the golf pro at The Woods.

United Bank/United Wealth Management and Argos have already signed on as presenting sponsors at the $5,000 level. Other sponsorship opportunities include the $2,500 underwriting, $1,000 sponsor, and $500 patron levels. There is also a $200 individual golfer package. A portion of the sponsorships and golfer package is tax deductible.
