WVU School of Nursing dean named president of regional education council

West Virginia University School of Nursing Dean Tara Hulsey has been elected president of the Southern Regional Education Board’s Council on Collegiate Education for Nursing, effective Nov. 13.

The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) works with states to improve public education at every level, from early childhood through doctoral education. The Board also assists policymakers in making informed decisions by providing independent, accurate data and recommendations. The Council on Collegiate Education for Nursing helps to expand and strengthen schools of nursing at colleges and universities to reduce the critical shortage of nurse educators needed to train the nation’s Registered Nurses.

“This is a critical time for our nation as we face a shortage of qualified, highly skilled nurses. This Council plays an important role in ensuring that our region is doing the very best to prepare these future nurses and the educators who train them,” said Hulsey. “I look forward to serving in this leadership role to further enhance partnerships and promote excellence in nursing education in our region.”

SREB, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization headquartered in Atlanta, is made up of 16 member states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
