562. Occupational Toxicology. 3 Hr. PR: Consent. General principles of toxicology with special emphasis on occupational health. Classes of chemicals which pose problems in the workplace will be emphasized.
( PDF Course Objective | PDF Schedule )

The objective of the Occupational Toxicology course is to provide students with a basic understanding of the physiological and biochemical responses of the human body to toxic substances. Emphasis will be placed on chemicals and biological agents in the workplace and how they affect human health. This will be approached from two perspectives: the intrinsic toxicities of substances will be described, and the changes that occur in the body upon exposure will be presented. Additionally, the potential hazards present in certain occupational settings will be discussed.
