WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute to host webinar with NIDA director

Monday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m.

The WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute is honored to host a webinar presentation with Dr. Nora D. Volkow, Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021 at 10 a.m.

Dr. Volkow will talk about the national opioid crisis with a focus on challenges posed by the drug fentanyl with a special introduction from Senator Shelley Moore Capito. A short Q&A session will follow.

As a research psychiatrist, Dr. Volkow pioneered the use of brain imaging to investigate how substance use affects brain functions. In particular, her studies have documented that changes in the dopamine system affect the functions of frontal brain regions involved with reward and self-control in addiction. She has also made important contributions to the neurobiology of obesity, ADHD, and aging. She became Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse in May 2003.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is the world’s largest funder of research on the health aspects of drug use and addiction.

Those interested in tuning into Dr. Volkow’s presentation on Monday will be able to join the webinar online
