Application: 

Application for the 2016 Admissions Cycle will be open from September 1, 2015 to February 15, 2016.  All applications are accepted electronically and must be submitted electronically via the official WVU Graduate Education application: https://app.applyyourself.com/AYApplicantLogin/fl_ApplicantConnectLogin.asp?id=wvugrad. Please read all instructions carefully and be sure to submit your application materials directly to the Office of Admissions at:

Required Application Materials:

 Personal Statement:

The personal statement should highlight relevant research experiences, your reasons for applying to the M.S. in the Biomedical Sciences at West Virginia University including the names of faculty and graduate programs of interest, and potential career goals. Applications without personal statements will not be reviewed. The personal Statement can be uploaded in the online application.

 Letters of Recommendation:

Letters of Recommendation should come from professors who can evaluate your performances in coursework and research and your potential to be a successful graduate student. Three letters of recommendation are required and can be submitted electronically by referees via the online application. Please enter your referees email address in the recommendation section and a notification will be sent to them requesting that they upload a letter on your behalf. This is the preferred method of receipt. Any referees wishing to mail in a hard copy letter should mail it directly to:

Transcripts:

One official transcript from each college attended must be submitted. Unofficial or personal copies will not be accepted.

  • Academic Institutions from within the United States: Official transcripts must be sent directly from your prior colleges to the West Virginia University Office of Admissions.
  • Academic Institutions from institutions outside of the United States: Transcripts or Marks sheets from institutions outside of the United States must be original or certified copies in original language of issue. Additionally, Official English Translations of Academic Records and certificates/ Diplomas are required.

Any supporting material not uploaded via the online application should be forwarded by mail or sent by Federal Express to the following address:

Test Scores:

  • GRE
    Official record of GRE general examination (verbal, quantitative, essay); the WVU Institution Code for the GRE is 5904.
  • TOEFL or IELTS (for international applicants)
    Results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) must be sent to WVU directly from the Educational Testing Service; the WVU Institution Code for the TOEFL/IELTS is 5904.

Application Review Process:

  • M.S. applications are reviewed from November through March by a Common Admissions Committee comprised of the graduate directors of our seven graduate training programs and a senior M.S. student representing the Graduate Student Organization.  The Assistant VP for Graduate Education and the Assistant Director of HSC Graduate Education are ex officio members.
  • Qualified M.S. applicants are invited in groups of 10 or more for a paid, 2.5 day visit/interview to the campus.
  • Travel costs and hotel accommodations for the visit/interview are paid by the HSC WVU Office of Research and Graduate Education. We will schedule your air flight and arrange your hotel accomodation.
  • Students with excellent credentials and who can clearly describe and understand their past research and demonstrate passion for research at the interview are seriously considered for acceptance.
  • Decisions of acceptance are made on a rolling basis, and all decisions made by the Admissions Committee are final.
  • For maximum admissions consideration, we recommend that you apply as early as possible.
